Similarity Measures

Each transition creates (or eliminates) a certain number of new components.

The topological similarity between two configurations is measured by the smallest number of changes necessary to transform one configuration into the other.

By assigning weights to the components according to their metric properties (relative length and area), refinements may be obtained.
