Lockheed is a leader in the acquisition and distribution of very large remotely-sensed data sets. In order to make them accessible for users on the information highways, the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA) at UCSB, SUNY Buffalo, and UMaine will investigate methods for intelligent access to such image collections. This part of the project will derive the concepts and components necessary for the design of appropriate direct-manipulation user interfaces, based on user requirements for domain-specific user knowledge.
