Our paper "From Data Streams to Fields: Extending Stream Data Models with Field Data Types" has been accepted at GIScience 2016.

We received a National Science Foundation award for our project "From Streams to Fields".

I am the Guest Editor for the ISPRS Journal of Geo-Information Special Issue "Geosensor Networks and the Sensor Web".

The SIGSPATIAL Newsletter on "Geosensor Networks" has been published.

Since Fall 2013, I am the Computer Science Undergraduate Coordinator at the School of Computing and Information Science.

Check out the Geosensor Networks Lab blog for current updates.

Dr. Silvia Nittel’s is an Associate Professor in the School of Computing and Information Science and a faculty member with the National Center of Geographic Information and Analysis at the University of Maine. She received her Ph.D. in 1994 from the University of Zurich in database management systems, and joined the UCLA Computer Science Department as postdoctoral researcher in 1995. At UCLA, she was the she was the Co-Director  of the UCLA Data Mining Lab. In Fall 2001, she joined the University of Maine as a faculty member.

Her current research interests are in extending data management technology to support wireless sensor networks, especially geosensor networks. Her research focuses on three overlapping areas:

She is the co-founder of the conference series "Geosensor Networks",  author of two books on Geosensor Networks and author of the topic "geosensor networks" in 4 encyclopedias. She is a recipient of a National Science Foundation Early CAREER award, and her research  has been funded with grants from NSF, NGA,  NASA and Maine National Guard.

See  "A Survey of Geosensor Networks: Advances in Dynamic Environmental Monitoring" for a geosensor networks overview article. Sensors 2009, 9(7), 5664-5678; doi:10.3390/s90705664, published: 15 July 2009.
